Rebecca Lappa’s fearless fusion of folk, rock and pop has her cresting the wave of Canada’s best contemporary singer-songwriters and creating a buzz with three nominations and one win at the 2019 Edmonton Music Awards. Her compositions crackle with passion, beautiful melodies and clever original lyrics sung in a vocal style all her own. This Canadian Folk Music Awards winner and Lieutenant Governor of Alberta’s Spirit of Vimy contest winner has toured across Canada entrancing audiences at festivals such as the Edmonton Folk Music Festival, Calgary Folk Festival, Canmore Folk Festival, Ottawa Blues Festival, the Edmonton Rock Music Festival and the Edmonton Grey Cup Festival. She’s opened/shared the stage with Crash Test Dummies, Jenn Grant, Digging Roots, Reignwolf, Basia Bulat, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Maria Dunn, Mike Plume and Leeroy Stagger.

In the past few years, Lappa has demonstrated that she is a star on the rise. In 2018, she was a Top 10 finalist in the My United Way Voice contest, chosen as Top 5 Regional Finalist in the 2018 CBC Searchlight, received The Bell Media Prize to attend Canada's Music Incubator in Toronto, selected for the EPL Capital City Records, won 1st place in the Ship and Anchor Song Contest, received an Honourable Mention in the 2018 Canadian Songwriting Competition, showcased at both COCA in Fredericton, and the Arts Touring Alliance of Alberta and was selected for the SOCAN Songhouse at BreakOut West in 2017 and 2018. Working with manager Mandy Wheelwright, Lappa is eager to use an Edmonton Arts Council grant to record her most personal songs to date with producer Leeroy Stagger. With her powerful vocals and honest stories, Lappa is an emerging Canadian talent who is clearly “one to watch”.

Kaleido Family Arts Festival is a free festival, donations are gratefully accepted.
