Capoeira is a traditional fusion of martial arts and dance that’s kicked and twisted its way around the globe. African slaves in Brazil created Capoeira over 500 years ago. They developed the moves to convince their captors they were practising ritual dancing when really they were developing a strategic fighting technique.

Capoeira balances the body, soul, and mind. The art keeps its strong traditions and helps you break through limits, revitalizing you for everyday life. Capoeira builds your self-confidence, and the challenge is within anyone’s reach regardless of age, race, gender or athletic experience. An intense physical and mental challenge between two ‘players’, Capoeira is characterized by deceptive kicks, sweeps, trips, head butts, and elbow and knee movements.

The game’s energy, rhythm and speed are determined by music and songs. The berimbau, a single steel stringed bow, is the lead instrument. The music is completed by clapping, singing, pandeiro (tambourine) and atabaque (oblong drum). Fast tempos instigate games where the players throw fast, powerful kicks and blows at each other, with gymnastic movements. Slower tempos prompt more dance like moves, and more deception between the two players.

Sangea is a common name given to a girl in Liberia which means "female leader." The objective of this group is to share and preserve the African culture through music and arts.

The group performs West African traditional music and dance that dates back hundreds of years. Its members come from both the Latin and African community. There is a unique harmony when the two cultures come together because of their similarities. Like the Latin culture, African culture has rhythm in every movement, from the way people walk, speak, and even work.

Taiko is now very popular globally, and draws people of all backgrounds and interests. Kita No Taiko has a diverse membership of people who love the energy, physicality, musicality, and culture of taiko. Our love of this art form brings us together and allows us to share with the community. W.A.T.A. (We Are The Apocalypse) is the long awaited follow up to G.R.I.L.L.I.O.S. (Gangsta Rap Is Living Life In Our Society), this time with less letters and more conversation starters. KazMega and Baggylean represent Hip Hop, and Hip Hop is all about dialogue. The duo is hoping to provide language to address the conversations that are not being had in constructive or healthy ways through call & response based performance. The project is hoping to serve as a hyper local sonic tableau of how we relate to identity on treaty 6 territory.
