Andrea Pinna

Andrea Pinna singing on stage

Saturday • 7:00 pm

Main Stage (119 Ave & 93 St in the Grassy Field)

Born in Cagliari, Italy in 1969, Andrea immigrated to Canada in 2014 as a foreign worker and hopes to remain in Canada as a permanent resident.

His artistic singing career as a tenor started later in life, at 33, in a tourist village on Sardinia Island. For him, the experience of singing in public was surprising and very emotional. As a result of this sudden success, Andrea began to study classical lyric singing, supported by professional coaches who helped him and introduced him to professional classical singers. Andrea has exhibited in many important Italian music centers like Milan, Bologna Palermo and his native Cagliari.

In 2012, Andrea produced a CD of Italian popular arias and Neapolitan songs with much success and joined a musical group exhibiting in many Italian theatres.

In Edmonton, Andrea continues to improve his musical talent and working to build a better future for him and his family here in Canada.

Kita no Taiko

Saturday • 5:45 pm

Main Stage (119 Ave & 93 St in the Grassy Field)

Kita no Taiko is a non-profit, volunteer based Japanese Drumming group, formed in 1986. Six people began with a passion to play Japanese drums. In the early days, practice consisted of playing on spare tires and homemade drums. Since then we have grown into a performance group and have been honoured to participate in festivals like the Fringe, K-Days, and Heritage Festival, and at venues like the Jubilee Auditorium, Winspear and Citadel Theatres. We have done collaborative performances with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, Citie Ballet, Shumka Ukrainian Dance, Firefly Theatre, and many others. We have been thankful to have the opportunity to travel to Japan twice as a group and study with masters, and to attend conferences such as the North American Taiko Conference where we learn from a range of teachers from around the world.
